i feed my cats a holistic raw food diet based on human grade meat. i feed them raw meaty bones to clean their teeth (which does work great) but i feel that i may want to brush as well. does anyone know of any holistic cat tooth paste? what type of brush do you recommend?
Tips on brushing cats teeth? what products do you like?
I don't use any tooth paste because it just makes a mess and then the cat gets upset and won't clean herself. Buy a really small toothbrush at the pet store and just hold the cat in your lap and push it into his/her mouth. If you think the bones are doing a pretty good job, I'd stick to that because it's hard to start an adult cat on a tooth brushing regime. Ask your vet if the teeth look alright or if brushing would be a big help.

Reply:You wanna brush your cat's teeth?!? Jeez, I reckon I've heard it all now!!
Don't tell me; you're American, aren't you?!?
Oh and if you're feeding bones to your cat (or dog) just be very careful that the bones don't splinter.
Reply:i just buy dental bites for mine
Reply:Watch those claws. I once sandpappered a bobcat's butt in a phone booth. Wasn't pretty.

Reply:There are many toothpastes available for cats, but don't know if they are holistic. Just never use human toothpaste - cats will swallow it and it is not good for them. They sell many different brushes, sometimes it is a matter of what your cat prefers. I have heard that the best method is to use those slip on finger covers. Then you apply the paste to it and gently use your finger, then dispose of it.
