It appears as if humans are living longer and longer. But their teeth still start to rot away at a relatively young age. If I have one beef with our creator, it is that the creator (God or whoever to choose to recognize as your creator) designed our teeth so poorly. The longevity of them is ridiculously short. Sure, there are a few amazing exceptions here and there. sometimes you run across a senior that has never had a cavity. But I and many others take care of their teeth obsssively and STILL I have had cavities, root canal work done, etc. In alot of cases, people just have so many problems that they have to get them pulled and go with dentures if the teeth haven%26#039;t already rotted away. What did the earliest humans do? Their mouth must%26#039;ve constantly been in pain from tooth decay and other dental problems. So back to my original question- why do humans outlive their teeth by so many years?
Why do humans outlive their own teeth by so many years?
Good question. I think it has something to do with an increasingly varied and dentally hostile diet. Also, I blame my cavities on Adam and Eve. I brush my teeth like 3 times a day and still get billions of cavities.
Reply:because people dont take good care of them
Reply:no humans don%26#039;t outlive their teeth but if you don%26#039;t take care of them they will rot out . teeth grow after death
Reply:It%26#039;s a design error. Until recently (the past twenty years or so) dental science wasn%26#039;t up to dealing with the problem. But with proper care by modern dentists, there%26#039;s no reason for a child of the new millennium to have serious dental problems.
Reply:This only happens if you don%26#039;t take care of your teeth! I would assume that more peoples teeth outlive their owners!! Everyone in my family still has their original teeth. no dentures...maybe rotting teeth just happen to be part of your genetic makeup?
Reply:It%26#039;s because Humans have adapted to run the world-We%26#039;ve virtually wiped out our (animal) competition that would prevent us living longer.A mouse in the wild has a lifespan in months,an elephant maybe 80 Years..on that scale,We%26#039;d maybe survive to 30 if we still lived like apes.As it is,we%26#039;ve developed society, and Older people are for the most part taken care of,with the result that although our bodies lose functionality with time (and teeth) we can still be around to see out a century...which is where medicine and prosthetics come in...
Reply:The main reason is because the modern diet has much more processed sugars than our ancestors. More sugar in our diet = more food for bacteria = more acid (waste product of caries causing bacteria) = more damage to teeth.
A second reason is our lifespan is much longer than it used to be.
Reply:easy question with 2 answers.
people eat too much sugar, especially corn syrup that is in everything you drink.
and people don%26#039;t floss. those exceptions you talk about aren%26#039;t that rare. it%26#039;s actually the rule for flossers.
Reply:teeth can last for around 250 years if it werent for plaque sugar all that jazz.......my boss told me he is an extremely good Dentist and very clever guy...
