What human foods are dangerous to feed my dog?

I always give my 4 month old puppy a little bit of everything we eat. I have heard to avoid onions, chocolate and cat food, lol (all of which she has never eaten).

Are their any other foods that are dangerous to feed my dog? She seems have a sweet tooth (vanilla ice cream and pudding, fruit, waffles with syrup, ect.) and does not like bread so much (pizza crust, biscuits, crackers). She will eat ANY kind of meat (turkey, beef, chicken, and even buffalo!) Also, my boss has a personal chef and he hardly ever eats the lunch packed for him, so I take the rest home and give it to her as treats for good behavior. He has a lot of exotic stuff in his lunches.

She eats puppy chow too, so she is getting plenty of the right nutrients, and we are not feeding her full meals of human food. Just a bite of whatever here and there.

No comments about her being spoiled (which she is!), becoming a beggar (which she isn't) or responses of a similar nature. I simply want to know what could harm her.

Well, the chocolate part is correct to an extent. The only chocolate that is harmful to dogs is the dark baker's chocolate, but its generally good to avoid it all together just in case. My dog, who's no longer a puppy is a spoiled rotten one! She gets hotdogs for breakfast and for dinner eats what we eat. Generally we find if she doesn't eat what we give her, then she doesn't like it-also animals have instinct and know what will harm them if they eat it and generally won't eat it when you give it to them. My dog only eats her kibble or chow when we aren't home and she gets hungary, so I'D SAY THAT YOU ARE DOING NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR PUPPY. Onions won't harm the puppy, but they will give her gas. If you want to avoid that then don't feed them to her. My dog likes icecream too, it was the only way we could get her to take her meds after her surgery to be fixed and when we need to giver her tranquilizers for travel. Again, no harm done. I'd say the only harm in what you are doing is that the pup will be a bit overweight than what the vet will like-In my opinion just festively plump and happy! Cat food fed to dogs, well i've never heard that this does harm in only that the dog will not get proper nutrients for a dog! Good luck and happy puppy parentship! :)

btw, regarding your boss's lunches. onions are used for cooking in a lot of things, so even though you don't see it, the likely hood is its still there. so be very careful about what you feed your dog.
Reply:Any human food.

Who gave me thumbs down? Yeah, talk to your vet and see what she thinks about feeding dogs human food. It's a no-no. And an obvious one at that.
Reply:I think that if her food intake is not moderated, than it could cause her to become overweight which could lead to numerous issues. Not to mention that she is probably getting all of her nutrients from puppy food so your just adding unnecessary extras. Food high in fat and sugar can also cause pancreatitis in dogs. If you want to feed her "real food" look into the "BARF" raw food diet. It's a lot of hard work and costs lots of money but I've heard a lot of good things about it. Good Luck ;)
Reply:chocolate
Reply:Avocado and grapes are really bad for dogs. So is alcohol and too much sugar.

Remember: "Extras" should only make up no more than 10% of the dog's total diet.
Reply:I've always had dogs my whole life. The only thing they couldn't hold down was hotdogs. They'd eat chocolate and everything and always turned out just fine.

However, never let a dog swallow a whole Wendys chicken sandwhich whole. My big dumb lab did that, I only know he did because I found a pile of barf that literally took 3 big shovel full scoops to clean, and on top was a whole chicken sandwhich.
Reply:No dog should eat human food. There digestive system is not ment to withstand all the things we do to our food like spices, herbs, ect. The only food that is ok to feed your pet is if they have an upset stomach you can boil chicken and rice. Has to be just plain chicken and rice though, no salt no nothing, must be very bland. Feeding your dog human food all the time greatly increases your pets risk for developing pancreatitis which unless caught and treated in early stages can be fatal. Stick with a good brand dry dog food. Thats the best , most healthy food your pet can eat.
